R12 Report Manager – New Issues (and a Resolution) with FSG Drilldown

With the release of R12, Oracle had retired Client ADI, a tool that had been used for many things, amongst which was making FSG reports look pretty, and allowing users to drilldown into the financial information displayed on the reports to get more detailed information.

With the retirement of Client ADI, Oracle began to push Report Manager, a Report Repository tool that allows users to drill-down into FSG reports, as long as they have a report-specific Excel template assigned to them.  I’ve been using Report Manager for some time, and I think it is a great tool to provide Management with access to the financial reports they need, as well as allowing them to discover what is behind the numbers (without bothering the folks in Accounting).

View-Only Access to Key Flexfield Values (Part 2)

Author: Lee Briggs Date: August 16th, 2011
Categories: Oracle E-Business Suite R12

In my last post, I walked through the process for restricting specific responsibilities from creating or updating Key Flexfield Segment Values.  For smaller companies with the same people doing multiple functions, this could be enough to meet this requirement.  For my client, this restriction wasn’t enough.  They needed to prevent specific responsibilities from seeing specific Flexfields, Titles, Structures, and Segments.

View-Only Access to Key Flexfield Values (Part 1)

Many of my clients were initially surprised that, while Oracle provides a form to create and edit segment values, there is no seeded method to provide view-only access.  Some have been further surprised to find out there was no seeded method to restrict access to specific segments.

A client of mine, a global financial institution, had identified 80 individuals who would require view-only access to all the segments in 2 Charts of accounts, and I was able to meet this challenge using 2 separate forms personalizations.  I’ll discuss restricting access to specific modules, flexfields, structures, and segments in a follow-up blog entry, but for now, let’s look at preventing specific responsibilities from creating or editing segment values.

ADI and Desktop Integrators – Collaborate Presentation

Author: Lee Briggs Date: April 4th, 2011
Categories: Oracle Application Services, Oracle E-Business Suite R12

In 11i, the go-to tool of the financial analyst was Application Desktop Integrator (ADI) – from here, an analyst could format financial reports, drill down on the numbers produced to get journal line detail, enter and upload a journal entry or an entire budget.

With the changes in architecture in R12, ADI is no longer supported, and the functionality provided by ADI has been replaced by other modules.  BI Publisher has become the primary report formatting tool, Report Manager delivers report repository functionality (as well as drill-down functionality for FSG reports),and many white-papers and presentations exist for these areas.

I’ve found that there isn’t much documentation around Oracle’s solution for the upload process – Desktop Integrators.  Desktop Integrators allow you to load data from Excel into ANY Interface or API, using the same validation as if you were entering data through the forms.  The tool allows you to build Lists of Values that will reach back to the database to ensure all entered data is correct before you import into the database.

To learn more about the tool, please come to my session at Collaborate 2011 – I’m presenting “Desktop Integrators – You mean I can load data from a spreadsheet straight into an interface??” on 4/13 at 2:15pm.  The ADI Special Interest Group (of which I’m the chairperson) is also meeting at Collaborate on 4/10 at 1:30pm.
